What Are Teeth In a Day?
If you have missing teeth, then you already know that an incomplete smile can adversely affect your life in so many ways. Missing teeth makes it all but impossible to make a good first impression at a job interview, on a first date, or during holiday parties. Missing teeth can interfere with proper articulation during conversations and it can become difficult to chew healthy foods. Gaps in your smile can even lead to negative consequences for your oral health, since a full set of teeth is necessary to preserve the underlying bone mass and the positions of adjacent teeth.
“When it comes to replacing missing teeth, the gold standard is dental implants. They are a permanent, aesthetically appealing solution that can dramatically improve oral health and appearance,” said Dr. Elliot at Long Island Implant and Cosmetic Dentistry. “Many of our patients are good candidates for same day dental implants with the All on 4 or All on 6 systems,” added Dr. Nick of the same dental practice.
A closer look at “teeth in a day”
Many patients with missing teeth are told by some dentists that they are not good candidates for dental implants because they do not have sufficient bone mass to support the titanium posts. There is also a risk that the implant will touch the nerve that runs along the jaw, causing nerve damage.
Same day dental implants rely on a technique that eliminates both of these problems. The cosmetic dentist inserts the implants at a 45-degree angle, rather than straight down into the jaw. This allows the dentist to make the best possible use of the remaining bone mass while minimizing the risk of nerve damage. With this innovative technique, it’s often possible for patients to receive dental implants much more quickly because there’s no need to go through a bone grafting procedure.
The All on 4 implant technique
With a “teeth in a day” procedure, it is possible for patients to resolve many missing teeth in an arch without necessarily having to receive the same number of dental implants as there are missing teeth. To perform the All on 4 technique, the dentist spaces four implants (or six implants for a full arch of missing teeth) along the jawline. Then, a customized, fixed dental bridge is placed on top of the posts to fill in all of the gaps in the smile. Thanks to these innovative techniques, patients are able to enjoy full, healthy smiles without having to wait for months because of extensive bone augmentation surgeries or extended healing times from implant placement.
