Survey Shows A Smile Is Still A Person’s Most Attractive Feature
These days, many people are concerned about their appearance. Face-lifts, Botox, lip injections, and dermal fillers continue to remain exceedingly popular in America. Newer technologies like laser fat melting, combined with older methods of tummy tuck surgery and liposuction are the mainstays of the plastic surgery industry.
Yet, a new survey conducted by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) confirms what Long Island cosmetic dentists have known all along – that the most attractive feature a person can have is a great smile, and it’s a feature that transcends the test of time.
Survey finds a smile is one’s most prized asset
The AACD Smile survey polled over 1,000 Americans in August 2012. Regardless of age, about 45 percent of survey participants agreed that a smile is a person’s most attractive feature. Very few individuals thought that the body (10%), hair (6%), or legs (5%) are appealing as one ages.
The survey also found:
- 80 percent of people were willing to spend money on maintaining a youthful appearance
- 3 in 5 people said they would spend money to maintain the quality of their teeth
- Imperfect teeth are considered “more noticeable” than excess weight, dark under-eye circles, and wrinkles
- 37 percent of survey respondents view people with flawed smiles to be less attractive
- A quarter of those surveyed said a person with a flawed smile appears less confident
- 1 in 2 people believe that a smile is the “most memorable feature” when first meeting someone
Well, there you have it: a smile is crucial in making first impressions, aging gracefully, and exuding confidence! A Forbes magazine article from this past summer reinforces the findings from the survey, stating that “dental work is emerging as the new anti-aging procedure.”
So, instead of spending all your dollars on Botox or liposuction, consider visiting Long Island Implants and Cosmetic Dentistry to improve or maintain your most noticeable asset: your pearly whites!
