13 Jan 2020 by  Ali Long in Crowns, Invisalign, News, Veneers, Whitening

The new year is here, and what better way to start off 2020 than with an improved smile! Long Island Implant & Cosmetic Dentistry offers numerous ways to achieve your goals and will work with you to understand your concerns and identify areas of improvement.

There is no need to feel self-conscious about your teeth anymore, and you will be pleasantly surprised at how easy (and painless) it can be to realize the looks, functionality, and confidence you deserve.

Get the smile you’ve always wanted in 2020

Cosmetic dentistry can provide life-changing benefits in so many ways. Not only in your appearance and self-esteem but your overall health. Did you know that the act of smiling is good for you? Research has shown that people who smile more tend to live longer, happier lives. Smiling releases those feel-good hormones known as endorphins that help alleviate stress. Less stress over the long term can lead to a stronger immune system.

“We are proud to help patients of all ages improve their smiles and oral hygiene using the latest methods and technologies,” says Dr. Nick Augenbaum, DDS. “Whether you want to straighten your smile, brighten discolored teeth, or need a cost-effective tooth replacement option we will find a solution that fits within your budget.”

Affordable cosmetic dentistry in Suffolk County

A lot of patients put off dental care because they are worried about cost. We are happy to work within your constraints and offer a variety of financing options and payment plans. Our Long Island dentists are able to offer first-rate cosmetic and reconstructive care at affordable rates. This is because our office has an in-house lab, and we are able to perform many services that other dentists have to outsource, thus adding to the cost.

CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) crowns are a great example of this. Our practice has a state-of-the-art CEREC imaging machine that makes customized dental crowns in less than half an hour! These personalized restorations are ideal for replacing deep fillings, protecting weak teeth, covering gaps or improving the aesthetics of a misshapen tooth. Imagine getting a new, tooth-colored crown in just a single office visit!

Explore your treatment options

There are numerous ways to improve your smile and see noticeable changes in a relatively short period of time. Stain-resistant porcelain veneers can be placed in just two office appointments, and are an excellent choice for improving the shape, length, and color of teeth.

If you want to kick off the new year with whiter, brighter teeth, ask about Sinsational Smiles® — our in-office tooth whitening system that works wonders in less than one hour.

Show off a beautiful smile in 2020

The first appointment at our Long Island practice is free and gives patients an opportunity to discuss their goals and explore cosmetic dentistry options. Whether you’re thinking about dental implants or teeth straightening with Invisalign, there’s no time like the present to get started!

You can reach our Rocky Point office by phone or request an appointment online.

Can Yellow Teeth Become White?

6 Oct 2019 by  admin in Whitening

before and after teeth whitening close-upA number of factors can cause your pearly whites to lose their luster and turn a yellowish hue. And while smoking and oral tobacco-use are a primary culprit, your diet can have a dramatic impact on the color of your teeth.

What causes yellow teeth?

Beverages that are rich in tannins like red wine can stain tooth enamel over time, as can drinks like soda, coffee, and black tea. Of course, diligent brushing and flossing can go a long way toward maintaining a brilliant smile, but you can’t control the effects of father time. As you age, the enamel covering the teeth becomes thinner making the yellow dentin inside more noticeable.

Yellow teeth can also result from excess fluoride exposure, especially among young children whose adult teeth are still developing.

Fortunately, you don’t have to live with stained or discolored teeth. By limiting stain-causing food and drinks, avoiding tobacco, and getting regular dental cleanings, you help prevent discoloration in the first place.

Home whitening remedies abound: from activated charcoal to fruit peels and baking soda rinses. While these treatments may be quick and easy, there is no real evidence that they work, or don’t cause more harm than good.

How to brighten yellow teeth

When it comes to brightening yellow teeth both safely and effectively, visit your local dentist for a one-on-one teeth whitening consultation. Here at Long Island Implant & Cosmetic Dentistry, many of our patients have tried over-the-counter whitening products with little success. Others need a quick smile makeover for an upcoming social event. Whatever the case, it is possible to go from dull, yellowish teeth to a gleaming bright white, either gradually or in one office visit, depending on your goals.

Quick and professional whitening

Toothpastes that claim to whiten teeth can help remove superficial stains, but more severe discoloration requires a much deeper level of bleaching. Our in-office tooth whitening treatments are more powerful than drugstore pastes or kits since they contain a higher concentration of carbamide peroxide (the bleaching agent).

The system uses an LED accelerating light to activate the gel’s whitening ingredients, resulting in a more luminous smile in just 20 minutes. Imagine lightening your teeth 2-5 shades in less than half an hour!

Professional teeth whitening in Long Island

Once you’ve decided to invest in a brighter smile, the next step is making an appointment with Long Island Implant & Cosmetic Dentistry. Our professional-strength teeth whitening treatments can help you say goodbye to stains and hello to a more confident and radiant you.

Depending on your preferences and level of tooth discoloration, we may recommend our in-office teeth whitening system, Sinsational Smiles®, or an at-home system that uses custom-made trays. Both tooth whitening options are economical and deliver outstanding results.

For more information about whitening your smile or other cosmetic dentistry treatments, please give our Rocky Point office a call today at 631.296.0588.

How Many Teeth Whitening Sessions Do I Need?

15 Jul 2019 by  admin in Whitening

before and after teeth whitening close-upCoffee, blueberries, wine, green tea… the list of things that can stain your teeth can seem endless. Pretty much any pigmented food or beverage can gradually dull your teeth and result in discoloration. This change can occur so subtly that you may not notice it’s happening—until you compare your current smile to older pictures of yourself.

When you decide it’s time to restore your brilliantly white smile, schedule an appointment with a cosmetic dentist. You’ll get results sooner than you might think. “Lots of our patients come in expecting to require multiple lengthy teeth whitening appointments. They are pleasantly surprised to discover they can get results much sooner than this!” says Dr. Nick at Long Island Implant and Cosmetic Dentistry in Suffolk County.

What to expect at your first appointment

In fact, one professional teeth whitening session is all you may need to achieve your desired results, especially if you choose the in-office option. An in-office teeth whitening session involves protecting the sensitive gums before applying a potent solution to whiten the teeth. This solution is then activated with a special light, which further enhances its effectiveness. By the time you leave, your teeth will be several shades whiter, and this is all most people need. If you have severely stained teeth, such as yellowish-brownish spots caused by smoking, you may need additional appointments. Your cosmetic dentist will put together a personalized treatment plan for you.

The other option involves custom-made take-home trays. These trays are custom-fitted for your teeth, which is one thing that sets them apart from commercially available whitening trays you’ll find at supermarkets. Because they are custom-fitted, they are effective at protecting your sensitive gums from the whitening solution. You’ll also get a stronger whitening solution than you could get in the supermarket. If you choose this option, you’ll wear one tray a day for 30 minutes at a time. Generally, patients can wear them for up to 10 consecutive days. However, you might not need this long to achieve your desired results.

When to schedule additional appointments

Even after achieving your desired results with either in-office whitening or take-home trays, you’ll find that the activities of daily living will gradually stain your teeth again. You can schedule an additional teeth whitening appointment when necessary to maintain your results. Some patients find that they need a touch-up appointment every four to six months.

Do Teeth Continue to Whiten After Treatment?

24 May 2019 by  admin in Whitening

teeth whitening before and afterA sparkly white smile projects health, happiness and vitality, and can give you confidence that helps you succeed in social situations, in client meetings, or in the boardroom. It’s no wonder, then, that many people who come to Long Island Implant and Cosmetic Dentistry ask about our teeth whitening services. One of the most common questions we hear is, “Do teeth continue to whiten after treatment?” The simple answer is that oftentimes they do, but it depends on the individual and the type of treatment they get.

Types of Teeth Whitening Treatments

There are two main types of professional teeth whitening treatments offered in our Suffolk County, NY offices. The first is a treatment called Sinsational Smiles®. It’s a popular in-office procedure that involves a light-activated whitening gel in a protective tray that you wear for about an hour. After that, you’ll have a take home gel that you apply on your own for the duration of treatment.

The second type of whitening treatment we offer is an at-home program that you administer yourself. A mere 30 minutes a day for up to 10 days should yield the desired results.

Of course, everyone’s teeth are different, and results will vary, but it’s likely you’ll notice the whitening effect to continue after your treatment cycle has concluded, especially with the more powerful in-office gel.

How Long Will My Results Last?

This all depends on how you take care of your mouth after your treatment is done. Beverages like coffee, tea, soda, and wine, as well as smoking can cause stains to reappear in as little as a month. Acidic foods like citrus may also contribute to staining. If you avoid these foods and drinks, and make sure to brush after eating, you’ll could keep your teeth looking great for a year or more.

Whitening toothpaste may help keep your smile in tip-top shape. Superb oral hygiene is a game-changer when it comes to reaping the maximum benefit from teeth whitening treatments. Put in a small amount of effort to keeping your mouth clean and healthy, and you’ll be rewarded with a movie-star quality smile.

Is Teeth Whitening Safe?

Teeth whitening procedures offered at Long Island Implant and Cosmetic Dentistry won’t harm your mouth. They don’t do damage to enamel or nerves, and they won’t affect your fillings and other dental work.

You can have the smile you’ve always dreamt of, without risking the health of your teeth and gums.

How Long Does It Take to See Results from Teeth Whitening?

12 Apr 2019 by  admin in Whitening

teeth whitening before and afterOne of the fantastic things about cosmetic dentistry is that you can tailor your treatment plan to suit your timeline. If you have a wedding, school reunion, or other major event planned, or if you simply want to look your best for your summer vacation, you can find a cosmetic dentistry treatment to fit within the amount of time you have. Some treatments do take a little while to bring results, such as Invisalign aligners. Others, like teeth whitening, can give you great results right away.

Of course, it all depends on what type of teeth whitening treatment you choose. “When patients come in asking for a brighter, whiter smile, I like to ask if they’ve got any special events coming up soon,” explains Dr. Nick of Long Island Implant and Cosmetic Dentistry. “That way, I can recommend either in-office whitening or the take-home kit with confidence.”

In-office teeth whitening timeline

An in-office teeth whitening treatment is just what it sounds like—the dentist will apply a professional-grade whitening material to the teeth, taking precautions to protect the sensitive gum tissue. The whitening substance will be left on your teeth, usually for about 20 minutes at a time. It’s activated with a special light to enhance its effectiveness. Depending on your treatment goals, you may repeat this process, but the entire treatment should take less than an hour.

By the time you walk out of the office, your teeth will be about two to three shades lighter than they were before. Patients typically find this to be a dramatic improvement! You may also be provided with a take-home whitening gel so that you can maintain your results at home.

Professional teeth whitening kit (at-home)

Some patients prefer to use teeth whitening kits at home. The kits you can purchase over the counter (OTC) in a supermarket contain a much milder grade of bleaching agent, and they typically take a long time to deliver minimal results. However, you can visit your cosmetic dentist to have a take-home kit personalized for you. The dentist will take impressions of your teeth to create trays that will fit perfectly.

You’ll wear one tray each day for 30 minutes. After each whitening session, you’ll see an immediate improvement in the brightness of your smile. You’ll continue to use the trays once daily until you achieve the smile you want, or up to 10 days.

Schedule your teeth whitening in Suffolk County, Long Island

You can get personalized guidance on your cosmetic dentistry goals when you visit the team at Long Island Implant and Cosmetic Dentistry. During your one-on-one consultation with an experienced dentist, you’ll learn about the teeth whitening options that are best suited for your needs and preferences. We’re pleased to offer Sinsational Smiles®, an in-office treatment that takes less than one hour to complete. Or, you can get a professionally created kit to use at home with custom-crafted trays that fit your mouth. Call today to set up an appointment!

How Often Can You Get Your Teeth Professionally Whitened?

22 Feb 2019 by  admin in Whitening

Tooth discoloration is very common. As we age, the outermost layers of our tooth enamel wears away, leaving your pearly whites looking gray or yellow. Whether your teeth are stained from nicotine, food and beverages, prescription medicines, poor oral hygiene, or even genetics, professional tooth whitening can help.

There are three kinds of tooth whitening: professional in office, professional at-home, and store-bought at home. All three of these whitening systems use peroxide-based bleaching agents. The main difference, however, is the amount of peroxide. The average at-home whitening kit has around 3% to 20% peroxide, while most in-office systems have between 15% and 43% peroxide.

Research shows that, when used as directed, the peroxide used in teeth whitening is safe. However, when used too often, the peroxide can lead to negative effects like:

  • Tooth sensitivity from leaving the treatment on too long
  • Bleeding or inflamed gums
  • Blue or see-through teeth, a symptom of dangerously thinning tooth enamel

These risks beg the question: how often can you get your teeth whitened?

In-Office Professional Teeth Whitening

Of all the tooth whitening options, getting your teeth professionally whitened in your dentist’s office is the best. You can rely on your dentist to recommend a safe and effective whitening system for your teeth, and in-office whitening has the longest results. If you whiten your teeth professionally in-office, you should only need to do it once a year. You may need to visit for occasional touch-ups, but with proper care, you’ll be flashing pearly whites all year long.

At-Home Professional Teeth Whitening

While using a professional tooth whitening kit at home may be convenient, these kits are stronger than over-the-counter options, and can  hurt your teeth if used incorrectly. Be sure to follow your dentist’s instructions carefully, and only use the kit once a year unless otherwise instructed.

Over the counter products

The at-home teeth whitening kits you can buy over the counter have the lowest concentration of peroxide, and are therefore less effective and need to be used more often. Most dentists recommend that you do not use an at-home kit for more than two consecutive weeks, and you do not repeat treatment for at least 6 months.

Safely brighten your smile

Your best bet for effective, long-lasting, and safe teeth whitening is through a professional. Long Island Implant & Cosmetic Dentistry offers expert teeth whitening in Rocky Point, NY.  Our in-office and at-home Sinsational Smiles teeth whitening systems are carefully tailored to each patient.

Is It Worth Getting Your Teeth Whitened at the Dentist?

1 Feb 2019 by  admin in Whitening

With the recent popularity of at-home whitening kits, many of our prospective clients in Long Island ask whether getting your teeth whitened at the dentist office is a worthwhile investment. Professional whitening can deliver significant improvements over DIY options in regard to both immediate and long-term results.

A Meticulous Clean

One of the biggest differences between using a DIY whitening kit and having your teeth whitened by an experienced professional is the focus on addressing the root causes of dental discoloration. While a whitening kit can make teeth appear cleaner, the process of having your teeth whitened by a dentist involves more comprehensive maintenance.

Before any whitening can begin, the team at Rocky Point Dentistry will work to ensure it starts with a clean slate of teeth. Your dentist will thoroughly clean your gums and teeth to remove plaque, tartar, and debris as well as filling in any cavities that need attention so that your smile is more attractive and radiant than ever before after the procedure.

Professional Tools and Techniques

Another important difference between using an at-home whitening kit and having your teeth cleaned at our offices is the tools and techniques we have access to. Whitening strips and trays may offer some short-term results, but our professional touch yields superior results in practically every aspect.

Our dentistry uses a higher grade of bleaching agent than a DIY kit, and we have the experience to ensure that it is applied and managed carefully. Our staff will closely monitor your whitening, performing an additional application if necessary to remove stubborn stains from the tooth surface while reducing the chances of post-whitening sensitivity.

During your procedure our dentists will fit you with a rubber shield known as a dental dam to protect your gums before applying the bleaching agent. Once the bleaching agent has begun to take effect, we can optimize the results with a high powered laser to give you a brilliant and natural looking finished product.

Ongoing Care

We will evaluate you after the procedure to develop an individualized action plan for maintaining your results, such as what foods and activities you should avoid to keep your smile stunning.

In the rare event that there is any adverse reaction to the process such as gum irritation in sensitive patients or an allergy to the bleaching agent, the value of our experience shines. Our staff can quickly address any issues that arise with your whitening procedure because the satisfaction of those who trust their teeth to us is always paramount.

Our Long Island teeth whitening procedures, including advanced Sinsational Smiles® technology, continue to stand as the most effective option for individuals in Suffolk County and beyond looking for the most sustainable results. Tooth Whitening or Veneers: Which Is the Best Option?

2 Nov 2018 by  Ali Long in Veneers, Whitening

Looking for a quick way to get a luminous smile? Want to brighten and correct discolored or damaged teeth? Cosmetic dentistry offers many ways to enhance your smile (and boost self-esteem in the process!).

If your teeth are stained, chipped or misshapen, there are two excellent options for achieving a movie star smile: tooth whitening and porcelain veneers. These two powerhouse treatments are the secret behind many of those perfect smiles you see A-listers flashing.

Between teeth bleaching and veneers, which option will help you correct aesthetic issues and achieve the smile of your dreams? Both treatments offer amazing results and benefits, which we’ll outline here.

Brighten your smile with teeth whitening

Brightening your smile has never been easier. One of the safest, most effective and convenient methods of fixing yellow or stained teeth is with a professional tooth whitening treatment. Imagine lightening your teeth by up to six shades in less than an hour! In-office whitening with Sinsational Smiles® can be done during your lunch break and corrects discoloration caused by nicotine, coffee, wine, tea and acidic foods. Unlike over-the-counter bleaching treatments that can be unreliable and provoke sensitivity, professional tooth whitening is customized to your exact needs. Rather whiten your teeth at home? Ask your cosmetic dentist about having custom trays made for an at-home whitening kit. Just 30 minutes a day will produce stunning results!

Professional teeth whitening is affordable, and a great option if you want to turn heads with a radiant smile that speaks of health and youthfulness. Armed with beautiful pearly whites, your confidence will soar to new heights.

Key Benefits: Reliable, fast, safe and very-cost effective for correcting mild to moderate tooth enamel discoloration

Make a great impression with dental veneers

Veneers are incredibly versatile, making them one of the most popular cosmetic dentistry treatments today. Micro-thin shells of porcelain or ceramic materials are bonded to the tooth’s surface to correct:

  • Severely worn teeth
  • Gaps
  • Stained teeth
  • Misshapen teeth
  • Cracked or chipped teeth
  • Uneven teeth

Veneers are custom made and mimic the translucent properties of your natural tooth enamel. They can be used to make dramatic changes in not only the color of your teeth, but their size, shape and length. Dental veneers offer long-lasting cosmetic improvements and have a lifespan of 15-20 years. Another advantage of dental veneers is that they will not discolor or stain like natural tooth enamel, meaning you can enjoy your favorite foods and drinks without worry.

Key Benefits: Veneers can address a range of cosmetic imperfections at once and can restore the aesthetics and functionality of your smile for decades.

Suffolk County cosmetic dentistry

When choosing between veneers and tooth whitening on Long Island, there are many factors to consider, including your specific concerns, your aesthetic goals, and whether you want a short-term or long-term smile makeover.

Smile Makeover Options with Amazing Results

12 Sep 2018 by  admin in Invisalign, Whitening

Before and after teeth whitening.Your smile is your most important accessory. It can show the world you’re a friendly, warm person who is full of self-confidence. But if you’re less than satisfied with the appearance of your smile, you probably aren’t showing it off as often as you’d like. It’s time to give yourself the smile you deserve with a comprehensive cosmetic dentistry makeover. Long Island Implant and Cosmetic Dentistry offers a complete selection of smile makeover options, including teeth whitening, clear aligners by Invisalign, dental implants, and much more!

Teeth whitening

In-office teeth whitening is the fastest and most effective way to get a brilliantly white smile. You won’t get results like these from over-the-counter products. Your cosmetic dentist will use a professional-grade whitening application, taking special precautions to protect the sensitive gum tissue. At Long Island Implant and Cosmetic Dentistry, we use Sinsational Smiles®, which is both chemically activated and laser enhanced to produce incredible results in less than one hour! Plus, you can take home a potent whitening gel to prolong your results—at no extra charge!

Invisalign treatment

Few treatment options work as quickly as teeth whitening, but you can get straight teeth in less time than you might think. The average adult who gets Invisalign achieves their ideal smile within 12 to 18 months! And unlike metal braces, you can enjoy noticeable improvements in your smile along the way—there are no metal brackets or wires to obstruct your smile!

Many people choose to add Invisalign to their smile makeover treatment plan because they are discreet, effective, convenient, and comfortable. Little about your daily lifestyle will change. You can continue to eat and drink whatever you want, play sports, smile for pictures, and travel.

Dental implants

If you’re currently wearing dentures, missing one or more teeth, or expect to have a tooth extraction, you can talk to the cosmetic dentist about dental implants. For patients with missing teeth, dental implants may be the single most impactful treatment option for improving both the look and function of the smile.

This treatment is more than a makeover—it’s a restoration of your smile. The dental implant is anchored firmly within the jawbone, which allows it to mimic the natural root of a tooth. This is ideal because it preserves bone mass and allows for superior functioning. The implant is topped by a crown, which looks just like a natural tooth. Once you receive your new dental implants, no one will be able to tell that you lost your natural teeth!

Begin planning your smile makeover today!

You deserve a beautiful, brilliant smile that you can feel confident about showing off. Let Dr. Nick and Dr. Elliot at Long Island Implant and Cosmetic Dentistry help you achieve the smile you deserve with our customized treatment plans. Call our office in Long Island, Suffolk County today at 631.296.0588. During your one-on-one consultation, we’ll discuss your aesthetic goals and determine which smile makeover options are right for you. School Starts Soon! Is Your Smile Ready?

9 Aug 2018 by  admin in Whitening

smiling student holding notebooks on campus at collegeWhether you’re headed back for your first year of high school or your last year of college, it’s always important to make sure you’re well-prepared to succeed. There’s still time to head to the dentist before class starts, so you can put your best smile forward! Go to your appointment with a list of your concerns, and your cosmetic dentist can develop a treatment plan that’s right for you. You might be interested in teeth whitening, for example, or perhaps you’re considering porcelain veneers. Your dentist can even help you manage your migraine symptoms, which will help you stay focused on your studies.

Teeth whitening

Teeth whitening is a cosmetic treatment that’s well-suited to the back-to-school crowd, since great results can be achieved with just one visit and there’s no downtime required. You’ve undoubtedly noticed over-the-counter teeth whitening toothpastes and strips available at any supermarket or pharmacy. But the problem with these is that they’re not very effective. It would take a long time to see any results, and when you’re getting ready to go back to school, you need dramatic results you can feel confident in.

Another perk of going to a dentist’s office for teeth whitening is that your dentist will take special measures to protect your sensitive gum tissues during the treatment. This level of care isn’t possible with OTC products. Plus, your dentist can use laser-activated, professional-grade materials that will brighten your smile quickly and safely.

Porcelain veneers

Sometimes, teeth whitening isn’t enough to give you that beautiful smile you want when heading back to class. If you have chipped or misshapen teeth, or gaps between your teeth, then you may be a good candidate for porcelain veneers. Veneers will also camouflage any stubborn stains. If you do get veneers, your dentist will first prepare your teeth. Then, he’ll securely bond a wafer-thin veneer to front side of each tooth to be treated. The veneers look indistinguishable from natural teeth, so no one will be able to tell that you have them. All your classmates will notice is your beautiful, friendly smile.

Migraine dentistry treatments

It’s been said that 80 percent of success is just showing up. There’s no question that attendance is crucial to success in school. Each time you miss a class, you miss out on information that you can’t adequately compensate for by looking over someone else’s notes. But if you have migraines, showing up to class every day can be tough. Migraines aren’t like other headaches—they can be downright debilitating.

Did you know that your dentist can help you manage your migraines? It’s because migraines can be triggered by a problem with the trigeminal nerve. If you clench and grind your teeth at night, you’re more likely to wake up with a migraine. Your dentist can put a stop to that by fitting you with an NTI tension suppression system, which is a custom-fitted nightguard that prevents nighttime clenching and grinding.

Get a beautiful smile for the new school year in Long Island, Suffolk County
